Rubengera Technical Secondary School was established by the religious congregation of Abaja ba Kristu, a protestant sisterhood that was founded in 1984. It is a private accredited school located in Karongi district (Western province) and offers courses in carpentry and wood technology. Rubengera TSS officially started on 4thFebruary 2013 with three years of technical training and currently has 54 students: 17 females & 37 males (female students occupy 31% of all students).
The 3 years training for A2 level focuses on carpentry and wood technology based on TVET guidelines given by Ministry of Education through WDA. The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Director General of WDA Jerome Gasana.
Besides graduation, two other important events took place during this ceremony; launching of a new project with its core funding area of reforestation and environment education in karongi district titled “use wood, plant trees” and two rotary clubs from German (rotary club Marburg and Weilburg) together with Rotary club Virunga-Rwanda were represented to support the project.
A Second event was the graduation of ToT (training of trainers). Rubengera TSS was selected by WDA to run a ToT (Training of Trainers) program in collaboration with the German Development cooperation through GIZ. This was due to the school’s organization, facility and human resources, which permit good quality of education for hands on skills. The 12 competent trainers who did CBT/CBA at Rubengera TSS were also officially awarded their certificates.
